Spanish cultural publication Babylon Magazine arrives in New York

Babylon Magazine, the only free international magazine about Spanish culture in English and Spanish, in partnership with Room Mate Hotels and with the sponsorship of Air Europa and Promoción de Madrid, will be celebrating the arrival of the publication in the United States on September 13 with Spain loves New York at the Room Mate Grace hotel in Manhattan.

The event will mark the start of distribution of Babylon on US soil, a country where Spanish is the language with the biggest number of speakers after English and the foreign language that attracts the most students. According to the Cervantes Institute, there are at least six million students of Spanish and 60% of pupils  in the American teaching system choose it as their first foreign language. 

Coinciding with the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, the event will bring together representives of the leading Spanish cultural organizations based in New York, members of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United States, and US companies and bodies with links to Spain. Also present will be representatives of Spanish business and culture, among them the president of the Room Mate Hotels chain, Enrique Sarasola. 

Guests will be able to taste a menu of Spanish tapas in the exceptional ambience of the Room Mate Grace, located right in the heart of Manhattan. The event will also mark the opening of an exhibition of urban art featuring eight top artists on the New York scene, among them Blade and Cope2, who will be interpreting with their own works their visions of Spanish culture. My name is Calle is the title of a show that is being organized by Babylon in conjunction with Nobulo, the organization dedicated to promotion of culture, and  Montana Colors, the company from the Catalonia region that is a world leader in the manufacture of paints designed specifically for graffiti and urban art.

Spain loves New York will  also be committing itself to promoting Spanish fashion with an exhibition featuring the latest designs of the young Spanish fashion house Potipoti. The ‘graphic fashion’ brand, with designs influenced by  pop art, music and street art, will be presenting an advance of its spring and summer  2011 collections. 

The party will be brought to a close by one of the most appealing acts on the Spanish electronic music scene. Seville duo Los Rumbers, Pete Lamotta and Dr. Guassa, will be presenting numbers from their first work, Flamenco Breaks, an  explosive mix of bits of flamenco with funky, break, hip hop and drum & bass rhythms.

La revista sobre cultura española Babylon Magazine se presenta en Nueva York

Babylon Magazine, la única revista internacional gratuita sobre cultura española en inglés y en español, en colaboración con Room Mate Hotels y con el patrocinio de Air Europa y Promoción de Madrid, celebrará el próximo lunes 13 de septiembre en el hotel Room Mate Grace de Manhattan el evento Spain Loves New York, que servirá de presentación de la publicación en los Estados Unidos. 

El evento supondrá el pistoletazo de salida para la distribución de Babylon en suelo estadounidense, donde el español es el segundo idioma con mayor número de hablantes tras el inglés y la primera lengua extranjera en estudio. Según el Instituto Cervantes, hay al menos 6 millones de estudiantes de español y el 60% de los alumnos de la enseñanza americana lo eligen como primera lengua extranjera. 

En plena celebración de la Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, la cita reunirá a los representantes de las entidades culturales españolas más importantes afincadas en Nueva York, miembros de la Cámara de Comercio de España en EE UU y empresas y entidades estadounidenses vinculadas con España. No faltarán representantes de los negocios y de la cultura española, como el Presidente de la cadena Room Mate Hotels, Enrique Sarasola.

Los asistentes al evento podrán degustar un menú de tapas españolas mientras disfrutan del entorno privilegiado del Room Mate Grace, enclavado en el corazón de Manhattan. Se inaugurará una exposición de arte urbano en la que ocho artistas referentes de la escena neoyorkina como Blade o Cope2, interpretarán en sendas obras su visión de la cultura española. My name is Calle será el nombre de la muestra, que Babylon organiza en colaboración con la organización Nobulo, dedicada a la promoción cultural, y Montana Colors, la empresa catalana líder mundial en la fabricación de pinturas pensadas especialmente para el grafiti y el arte urbano.

Spain loves New York, apostará también por la moda española con una exhibición de los últimos diseños de la joven firma de moda española Potipoti. La marca de la ‘moda gráfica’, con diseños influidos por la ilustración pop, la música y el street art, presentará un adelanto de su colección primavera verano 2011. 

El fin de fiesta correrá a cargo de una de las propuestas más atractivas del panorama electrónico español. El dúo sevillano Los Rumbers, formado por los sevillanos Pete Lamotta y Dr. Guasa, pinchará los temas de su primer trabajo, Flamenco Breaks, un encuentro explosivo entre samples del flamenco con ritmos funky, breaks, hip hop y drum & bass.

präsentieren potipoti ihre kommende H/W Kollektion 2010/11 “Yuxtapose” am Tag der 

offenen Tür, 21. und 22. August 2010, im Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie in Berlin.

Die Fashion Shows finden am 21. August um 17.50 Uhr und am 22. August um 13.50 Uhr statt.
